Patna: The infant’s mother, Renu Kumari, a resident of Rohtas district, had boarded the Kota-Patna Express on August 22 with her son Aryan, also known as Devansh. Renu’s husband, Premchand Chaudhary, a bike mechanic, died in a road accident three months ago. She was travelling to Bihar to see her ailing mother.
According to investigators, two individuals — a man and a woman — befriended Renu during the journey in the general coach. The pair reportedly gained her trust by repeatedly offering to hold and feed the child. The woman left the train at Danapur, while the man accompanied Renu to Patna Junction.
At around 7.30 pm on August 23, near the waiting hall at platform 10, Renu handed her son to the man before going to the toilet. When she returned, both the man and the child were missing.
Police said they have registered a case and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspects. GRP officials confirmed that the gang is believed to be part of an organised network targeting vulnerable women and children at major railway stations.
Renu, originally from Aurangabad, had married Premchand in May 2024. With her son only six months old, she was left widowed and vulnerable after her husband’s sudden death.
