Patna: A fire broke out on Friday at a warehouse on the third and fourth floors of an electrical shop in Patna Junction’s Chandni Market, destroying chandeliers, PVC lights and other electrical goods stored there.
Smoke and flames rising from the warehouse triggered panic among nearby shopkeepers and residents. Firefighters reached the spot after receiving information and began efforts to bring the blaze under control.
Welding Work Reportedly Sparked Fire
According to people present at the scene, construction work was underway at the warehouse while lighting stock was being stored for upcoming festivals.
Labourers were reportedly carrying out welding work when sparks are believed to have ignited the stored lighting materials. The fire then spread rapidly through the warehouse.
Fire Tender Faced Access Problems
A fire tender reached the area but could not approach the exact location because of the narrow lane leading to the premises.
Firefighters therefore used hoses to direct water towards the warehouse. Continuous water spraying was carried out to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby shops.
Electrical Goods Complicated Firefighting
The presence of a large quantity of electrical goods made the firefighting operation more difficult, with flames and thick smoke continuing to emerge from the warehouse.
A large crowd gathered at the site as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Cause And Extent Of Damage Yet To Be Confirmed
The exact cause of the fire has not been officially established. There was also no official confirmation at the time of reporting about casualties or the total financial loss.
The extent of the damage is expected to become clearer after the fire is completely extinguished and the authorities assess the premises and stock.
