Patna: The Danapur Railway Division has announced plans to modernise five stations across Bihar, introducing advanced digital information systems and a giant 432-square-foot megascreen in a bid to improve the travel experience for passengers.
Following Patna Junction, similar upgrades are being rolled out at Patliputra, Rajendranagar Terminal, Ara, Bihar Sharif and Buxar stations. Rail officials say the entire information network at these stations will be overhauled to provide real-time updates on train schedules and platform changes.
More than 25 television screens are being installed across platforms, offering passengers instant information on arrivals, departures and other service updates. The centrepiece of the upgrade will be a large digital display, 36ft wide and 12ft high, mounted on the main station complex. The screen will broadcast live train status and timetables throughout the day.
Advertising will be permitted on the megascreen, though officials say no commercial content will run during critical train information announcements. The project is being implemented at no cost to Indian Railways: the private firm installing the screens will fund the initiative in return for advertising rights.
A previous proposal to install smaller television screens at an estimated cost of Rs 90 lakh was dropped. Railway officials argue that the new model not only saves public money but offers passengers more advanced and user-friendly information services. Commuters have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the upgrades will lead to smoother and more reliable travel.
