Patna: A delegation from the Bihar Rail Users Association has called for urgent infrastructure upgrades in the Danapur division, placing strong emphasis on the redevelopment of Patna Junction and expansion of key rail corridors to address growing passenger demand.
During a meeting with Divisional Commercial Manager Abhishek Kumar Tiwari, the association submitted a memorandum outlining proposals aimed at easing congestion and improving rail connectivity across Bihar.
Focus on Patna Junction redevelopment
The association highlighted the increasing pressure on Patna Junction — one of the busiest railway stations in eastern India — and urged authorities to upgrade the proposed redevelopment plan from a G+4 to a G+10 structure.
Members argued that a larger, modernised station complex is essential to accommodate rising passenger volumes and future traffic growth. They also stressed the need to expedite the Harding Park Terminal project to decongest Patna Junction and streamline operations.

Demand for line expansion on key corridor
A key concern raised during the meeting was the capacity constraint on the critical Delhi–Howrah route passing through Bihar.
The association strongly advocated for tripling and quadrupling of the DDU–PNBE–Kiul mainline, a vital stretch connecting Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Patna and Kiul.
According to the delegation, expanding this corridor is crucial to:
- Reduce congestion on one of the busiest rail routes in the country
- Improve punctuality of trains
- Enable introduction of new services
- Support freight movement alongside passenger traffic
Additional proposals on services and connectivity
Alongside infrastructure demands, the association proposed the introduction of new trains, including intercity and overnight services connecting key regions such as Purnia, Saharsa and Nawada.
It also sought extensions of existing routes to improve connectivity to religious and regional centres such as Rajgir, Deoghar and Buxar, and called for additional stoppages at several stations to cater to local passengers.
Railway officials respond
Tiwari assured the delegation that their concerns would be examined and taken forward as per feasibility.
The association said that strengthening core infrastructure — particularly Patna Junction and the DDU–PNBE–Kiul corridor — remains essential for improving rail services in Bihar and meeting the demands of a rapidly growing passenger base.
