Patna: Serious concerns have emerged over the condition of the road around the newly built roundabout in front of Patna Junction, where poor repair work and uneven drain slabs are causing daily hazards for commuters. The roundabout was constructed after demolishing the older, larger Nehru roundabout, but the surrounding infrastructure has deteriorated sharply.
Residents and drivers say the damaged surface and carelessly placed drain covers have led to repeated accidents, with two-wheelers and autos often slipping or getting stuck. Patna Junction, one of the city’s busiest transport hubs, sees heavy footfall and traffic around the clock, making the neglect particularly worrying.

Locals report that drain slabs in the area are uneven or sinking, causing vehicles to wobble and lose balance. The uneven road has also created persistent traffic jams, especially during peak hours. Shopkeepers and regular commuters say the danger escalates after rain or during evening hours, when sunken drain slabs create invisible potholes. Passengers alighting with luggage have also reported stumbling and falling.
Drivers say that despite the constant traffic and rising risk, no major repair work has been carried out since the roundabout’s reconstruction. Many fear that the poor condition of the road could lead to a serious accident.
Residents are now demanding urgent intervention from the Municipal Corporation and the Road Construction Department. They argue that with millions of passengers passing through Patna Junction daily, restoring the road and securing the drain covers must be treated as a priority.
