Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner on Thursday inspected multiple areas in Kankarbagh circle, reviewing the status of drainage, sanitation, encroachment, road restoration, street lighting and other civic infrastructure ahead of the monsoon.
The inspection covered wards 33, 34, 35, 44, 45, 46 and 55, in the presence of local councillors and senior municipal officials.
Officials said the visit was aimed at assessing preparedness for waterlogging and civic maintenance during the rainy season.
Action against sanitation staff
During the inspection near Ram Sundar Das Park at Kankarbagh Colony More, construction and demolition (C&D) waste was found dumped in the area.
The commissioner sought explanations from the sanitation inspector of ward 33, the chief sanitation inspector of Kankarbagh circle, and the city manager, citing negligence in waste clearance.
In ward 44, the sanitation inspector was found absent during the inspection. The commissioner directed that the official’s salary be withheld.
Damaged drains and pending repairs
A roadside drain near Gayatri Mandir, under the jurisdiction of the Road Construction Department, was found damaged.
The civic body directed coordination with the concerned department to ensure repairs at the earliest to prevent disruption in water flow during rainfall.
At Sai Netralaya in Kankarbagh Sector E, the commissioner reviewed drain desilting work by opening chambers for inspection. Officials said the cleaning work was found satisfactory.
However, debris and construction material were found inside a newly built drain by BUIDCO in the same area. Though the drain has not yet been made operational, the commissioner expressed concern over the dumping of material and ordered immediate cleaning.
Road restoration project under review
On Kendriya Vidyalaya Road, officials informed the commissioner that road and drain construction work was underway under the Road Construction Department.
Parts of the project have been completed, and officials said the new infrastructure is expected to improve natural drainage in the area.
The inspection also extended to the DPS area in Yogipur, where civic arrangements were reviewed.
Slow progress flagged in Ward 46
At Kanti Factory near Old Bypass, another damaged drain under the Road Construction Department was found in a hazardous condition.
Officials were instructed to barricade the site immediately to prevent accidents and expedite repairs.
In ward 46, the commissioner reviewed the road restoration project and expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work.
The salaries of the executive engineer and junior engineer of the Kankarbagh division were ordered to be withheld. Both officials were also directed to report at the municipal control room every night for the next week.
Councillors and officials present
The inspection was attended by councillors from wards 34, 35 and 45, along with additional municipal commissioners for sanitation and planning, and officials from engineering, water supply and electricity departments.
The civic body said follow-up inspections would continue in other parts of the city as part of monsoon preparedness.
