Patna: A 26-year-old woman was found dead in her rented accommodation in Patna’s Krishnapuri area on Friday night, in what police are treating as a suspected case of suicide.
The incident took place in a lane off Veer Kunwar Singh Path under Sri Krishnapuri police station limits. According to police, the woman, who had been preparing for competitive examinations, was found hanging in her room.
Boyfriend alerted after no response
Police said the woman’s partner, with whom she had been living, became concerned after she stopped responding to messages. He told investigators that they had been chatting on their phones while in separate rooms when she began playing music at a high volume.
After repeated attempts to contact her failed, he went to her room and, receiving no response, broke open the door. He found her hanging inside and rushed her to a private hospital, where she was declared dead.
Background and investigation
The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for about a year and were planning to get married, with their families expected to meet soon. Both were originally from Bhagalpur and had met while attending coaching classes in Patna.
Police said the woman was scheduled to appear for a railway recruitment examination in the coming days.
Her family members, including her father, have arrived in Patna. No formal statement has been issued by them so far.
Authorities said a case has been registered and further investigation is under way. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem examination.
