Patna: Patna police made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal liquor trade on Friday, seizing 2,300 liters of foreign liquor in the Beur area. Acting on a tip-off, the police, including the Prohibition Unit and local patrol teams, conducted a joint raid on a garage where the consignment was being prepared for distribution. Four smugglers were caught on the spot, and vehicles used for transporting the liquor were also confiscated.
The seized liquor consisted of 192 cartons of Kingfisher beer, amounting to approximately 2,300 liters. According to Patna West City Superintendent of Police (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh, the truck carrying the liquor was scheduled to unload the consignment at Beur More. He said that even though Bihar has a complete prohibition on alcohol, smugglers continue to find new ways to transport and sell it.
The arrested accused include Suraj Yadav from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, Ravish Kumar Kesari from Mithapur, Patna, Rahul Kumar from Kankarbagh, Patna, and Bhim Rai from Shivpuri, Patna. A formal case has been registered under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise (Amendment) Act at Beohar police station. Police officers confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the larger network behind this smuggling operation.
Authorities emphasised that strict action against liquor smuggling will continue, especially ahead of the festive season when demand for alcohol rises. Police officials said that continuous campaigns are being run to curb the activities of liquor mafias and ensure that prohibition laws are effectively enforced. This raid is one of the largest recent seizures in Patna and demonstrates the city’s commitment to tackling illegal alcohol trade.
