PATNA: With the conclusion of Dussehra, the vibrant crowds that once filled the Durga Puja fair have now shifted their focus to the bustling non-vegetarian markets across the city. This transition signals a significant change in consumer behavior, as sales of chicken, mutton, and fish have seen a remarkable upswing. It’s evident that people were eagerly awaiting the end of Navratri to indulge in their favorite non-vegetarian delicacies.
Md. Imran, the proprietor of a mutton shop located at Chiraiyataand Chauraha, remarked, “Sales have tripled compared to typical days.”
Also, he noted that prices have risen to 800 rupees per kilogram from the previous rate of 750 rupees.
Another shop owner, Faiz, said, “This day is a festival to us, and since morning, the sale is going bumper as people are buying non-veg massively.”
Sonu Kumar, a fish shop owner near Kumhrar Park, stated, “Our shop was closed for the entire Navratri, and now the sales are summing up for the entire closed period. We are selling Rohu fish at 320/kg and Jasal for 180/kg.”
Virendra Vikram, a resident of Rajendra, said, “This crowd gathering is normal; I was also waiting for Navratri to end, and this happens with almost every non-vegetarian lover.”
Another customer, Abhishek Sinha, mentioned an increase in fish prices. He said, “I have been purchasing Rohu fish at a maximum of 280/kg, and today it’s not coming below 320/kg. It’s a hike for one day only.”
This phenomenon underlines how cultural and religious events can significantly impact the local economy and people’s dietary preferences. As the city’s non-vegetarian markets experience this boom in sales, they also serve as a testament to the rich diversity and culinary traditions that make this post-Navratri period all the more special for the residents.
