Patna: A trial run of a revised traffic management plan for Nehru Path (Bailey Road) is likely to begin within a week as authorities seek to minimise congestion caused by the ongoing construction of the Patna Metro.
The proposed plan covers key stretches near Income Tax Golambar, Vikas Bhawan and Zoo Gate No. 1, where metro station construction has reduced available road space.
Trial Awaiting Final Approval
Officials said a meeting on the proposed traffic arrangements has already been held, and the plan is awaiting approval from senior authorities before being implemented.
Under the proposal, two traffic lanes will be created within the remaining carriageway alongside the metro construction site. These lanes will primarily be used by private vehicles, while commercial vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes.
Traffic Superintendent of Police Sagar Kumar Jha said the trial would begin shortly. He added that traffic police personnel would be deployed at key locations, and the detailed traffic advisory would be issued before the trial starts.

Commercial Vehicles To Be Diverted
During the trial, private vehicles travelling between Income Tax Golambar and Saguna Mor are expected to continue using Nehru Path.
However, commercial vehicles—including buses, auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws—will be diverted to reduce congestion along the metro construction corridor.
According to the proposed plan, commercial vehicles approaching from Income Tax Golambar may be routed via Veerchand Patel Path, R-Block Golambar and Mandiri Nala Road towards Bansghat.
Vehicles travelling from Saguna Mor will be able to use the Digha-Ashiana Road corridor where required.

Additional Diversion Routes Planned
Authorities are also considering diverting commercial traffic via Sheikhpura Mor and Dumra Chowki towards the Airport, Patel Golambar, Atal Path, R-Block intersection, and the Multi-Modal Hub at GPO Golambar.
Traffic police said personnel would be stationed at strategic intersections to regulate traffic flow and minimise disruption during the trial period.
The revised plan is part of the city’s broader effort to maintain smoother traffic movement on Bailey Road while construction of the Patna Metro progresses.
