Patna: The Bihar government has set fresh timelines for the Patna Metro project, directing officials to accelerate construction and ensure uninterrupted funding to complete the delayed project. The first elevated stretch is now targeted for commissioning by June 2027, while the underground section is expected to become operational in 2028.
The decisions were taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit on Monday.
Construction Pace To Be Increased
Reviewing the project’s progress, financial status and implementation schedule, the chief secretary said the pace of construction must be doubled to meet the revised deadlines.
Officials also reviewed traffic management plans around metro stations and discussed measures to address bottlenecks affecting construction.
Rs. 1,100 Crore Funding Cleared
To prevent delays caused by financial constraints, the chief secretary directed that Rs. 1,100 crore required for contracts being executed under the deposit works mechanism should be made available without interruption.
The government said the move is intended to ensure that construction continues without disruption due to funding shortages.
Traffic Diversions And Removal Of Obstacles
The meeting reviewed proposed traffic diversion plans near the Vikas Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan and Patna Zoo metro stations.
The chief secretary instructed officials to minimise inconvenience to commuters during construction and directed the deployment of adequate traffic marshals to manage congestion.
He also asked departments to coordinate the removal of obstacles, including an SBI ATM, a police booth, roadside fruit stalls and boundary walls of government properties that are hindering work near Vikas Bhawan and Vidyut Bhawan stations.
New Operational Targets
Under the revised schedule, the 3.1-km elevated section between Mithapur and Khemni Chak on Corridor-1 is expected to open by June 2027.
The 8-km underground section on Corridor-2, extending from Rajendra Nagar station–Malahi Pakri ramp to Akashvani station–Patna Junction, has been targeted for completion in 2028.
The chief secretary also directed all departments involved in the project to work in coordination and submit weekly progress reports to monitor implementation.
