Patna: The Bihar government has sanctioned Rs 14.40 crore for the operation and maintenance of Patna Metro’s priority corridor during the 2026-27 financial year.
The Urban Development and Housing Department issued an order approving the amount as a subsidy for meeting immediate operational and maintenance requirements of the metro project.
The management and operation of the priority corridor has been entrusted to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Rs 179.37 Crore Estimated Requirement
The total estimated expenditure for operating and maintaining the priority corridor over a period of two years and eight months is Rs 179.37 crore.
The requirement covers metro operations as well as technical and other maintenance activities associated with the corridor.
The Patna Metro Rail Corporation had sought Rs 179.37 crore for these requirements. The government has already made Rs 39.85 crore available, while the latest approval provides an additional Rs 14.40 crore.
According to departmental figures, Rs 125.12 crore will remain to be released subsequently based on operational requirements.
Funds To Be Routed Through BUIDCO
The government has specified a procedure for the withdrawal and utilisation of the sanctioned funds.
The amount will not be deposited directly into the account of Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited. Instead, the funds will first be transferred to the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO).
BUIDCO will subsequently transfer the sanctioned amount to the Patna Metro Rail Corporation’s account. Departmental officials will oversee the withdrawal and expenditure of the funds.
Focus On Operations And Maintenance
The funding will support operational requirements and maintenance of infrastructure associated with the priority corridor.
Regular maintenance of tracks, stations, signalling systems, technical equipment and other metro infrastructure will be required alongside train operations.
The latest sanction is part of the government’s phased funding arrangement for the priority corridor, with further releases expected according to project requirements and expenditure.
