Patna Metro: Successful Launch of Tunnel Boring Machine for Corridor 2

Patna: The Patna Metro Rail Project has reached a significant milestone with the successful lowering of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)-1 for Corridor 2. This marks the launch of the TBM for its second tunneling operation, focusing on the section between ISBT station and Patna Junction as part of Phase I construction. The machine is set to construct a 2,302-meter-long tunnel on the downline from Patna University metro station to Gandhi Maidan via PMCH station.

In a notable achievement, TBM-1 previously made a breakthrough at Patna University metro station on March 20, was retrieved on May 13, and subsequently lowered into the shaft on May 24, 2024, for its second journey. The tunneling work commenced on Tuesday, moving from Patna University towards Gandhi Maidan metro station.

Earlier, the TBM covered a distance of 1,494 meters between Moin Ul Haq Stadium station and University station, completing its journey in 10 months and achieving a breakthrough. The entire TBM was retrieved at Patna University using a mega load setup. Additionally, TBM-2 successfully completed a critical phase of the Patna Metro project, covering 1,480 meters in the downline between Moin Ul Haq Stadium station and University station, culminating in a breakthrough on May 14 at the University metro station.

Equipped with a state-of-the-art computerized navigation system, TBM-1 will dig an average of 10 meters per day. The TBMs are operated by a highly trained specialist crew working around the clock to ensure minimal disturbance above ground for traffic, businesses, and residents.
