Patna: The plan to connect Patna Airport to the metro network is set to take off soon, with the Urban Development Department tasking railway organization RITES to conduct a feasibility study. The study will explore the possibility of running metro rail to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Airport, ensuring better connectivity for commuters.

Metro Expansion and Current Routes

Patna Metro currently has two routes under construction:

  1. Danapur to Khemnichak
  2. Patna Junction to ISBT via Gandhi Maidan

These two metro corridors span a total length of approximately 32 km, covering key locations including bus stands and railway stations. However, the airport remains unconnected in the current metro plan, prompting the state government to explore its inclusion.

Feasibility Report to Determine Airport Connectivity

  • The feasibility study will be conducted by RITES at a cost of ₹24.98 lakh.
  • Based on this study, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared.
  • The final decision to connect the airport will depend on the feasibility report’s findings.

The state government had earlier proposed connecting both Patna Airport and Patna Sahib Gurudwara with the metro network, but the first phase of study will focus only on the airport link.

Priority Corridor Targeted for August Completion

Patna Metro’s priority corridor, an elevated stretch of about six kilometers, is targeted for completion by August 15, 2025. This corridor will have the following stations:

  • Malahi Pakadi
  • Khemnichak
  • Bhootnath Road
  • Zero Mile
  • New ISBT

With metro connectivity to the airport, Patna’s public transport system is expected to become more efficient and accessible for travelers.
