Patna: The arrival of the monsoon has boosted demand for plants and gardening supplies across Patna, with nurseries reporting increased footfall from residents looking to add greenery to their homes and gardens.
Experts consider the rainy season the most suitable period for planting because natural moisture and favourable weather conditions help plants establish roots and grow more rapidly.
From flowering varieties such as marigold, chrysanthemum, zinnia, balsam and tuberose to decorative plants including croton, rubber plant, echeveria and aglaonema, residents have a wide range of options to choose from this season.
Besides enhancing the appearance of homes and balconies, many of these plants help improve air quality and create a healthier living environment.
Nurseries Witness Surge in Demand
With monsoon showers setting in, several nurseries across the city have witnessed a sharp increase in customer demand.
Popular outlets including Tripuram Nursery near Gandhi Maidan, Govind Nursery, Mohan Vatika and Capital Vatika are stocking a variety of indoor, semi-indoor and outdoor plants. Residents can also purchase plants from facilities at Patna Zoo and the Mithapur Agricultural Research Centre.
At the nursery inside Eco Park, larger potted plants such as croton and areca palm are available for around Rs 150, while smaller indoor plants including money plants and snake plants can be purchased for approximately Rs 120.
The nurseries remain open from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Tree saplings such as neem, teak, ashoka, amla, mahogany and banyan are available for as little as Rs 10 each.
Proper Drainage Key During Rainy Season
Nursery operators say that while monsoon is ideal for planting, excessive moisture can also damage plants if proper care is not taken.
Waterlogging, fungal growth and weed infestation are among the most common problems faced by gardeners during the rainy season.
Experts recommend ensuring proper drainage by using pots with adequate holes to allow excess water to escape. Organic compost is also preferred over chemical fertilisers, as it supports healthier plant growth and improves soil quality.
Akhilesh Kumar Singh of Tripuram Nursery said a wide variety of plants suitable for monsoon cultivation is currently available at the nursery.
Amod, associated with Govind Nursery, said the weather conditions are favourable for planting but regular maintenance remains essential for healthy growth.
