Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation has intensified its pre-monsoon review of civic infrastructure, with the Municipal Commissioner conducting ward-level inspections alongside elected representatives and department officials.
On Monday, the commissioner visited wards 1, 2, 5 and 6 to assess the status of drainage systems, sanitation services, water supply networks and ongoing infrastructure projects.
Drainage and road works reviewed in Ward 1
In Ward 1, the inspection covered Jayprakash Nagar, May Flower and Gyan Deep localities, where civic infrastructure challenges were reviewed.
Officials were directed to prepare plans and estimates for the construction of combined road and drainage systems. Instructions were also issued to arrange pump sets to ensure effective water drainage during the monsoon.
The commissioner reviewed ongoing road restoration work on Ghurdaur Road-1 and directed engineers to complete the project by Sunday.
Measures planned to strengthen flood preparedness
Representatives of Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) informed officials that repair work on a sluice gate had been completed.
The commissioner instructed officials to obtain a completion certificate and install a high-capacity pump at the site to maintain drainage efficiency in the event of a rise in the Ganga’s water level.
Water supply concerns raised in Nirala Nagar
During a review of the water supply network in Nirala Nagar, local representatives highlighted the need to expand infrastructure and increase supply capacity.
According to officials, pressure-related leakages have occurred at several locations because of limitations in the existing pipeline network.
The commissioner directed the water supply division to submit a detailed technical report and recommend corrective measures.
Construction and maintenance issues flagged
At Ambedkar Colony, the commissioner inspected an under-construction drain and noted complaints that waste was being dumped into newly built manholes, affecting progress.
Sanitation officials were directed to carry out daily inspections and ensure regular cleaning of the site.
PMC officials said around 200 metres of drain construction had been completed under the project, with the remaining work expected to be finished shortly.
Drainage network inspected in Ward 6
In Rajiv Nagar, the commissioner inspected drainage chambers and reviewed silt accumulation levels.
Officials were instructed to continue desilting and maintenance operations. The commissioner also called for the early completion of an under-construction box drain being built by BUIDCO on Road Nos. 14 and 15.
A separate review was conducted of work connecting Road Nos. 24A and 24B to the main drain through hume pipes, with engineers directed to verify drainage levels and ensure quality standards.
Waste collection and drainage complaints examined
In Ward 5, officials were instructed to connect chambers constructed on both sides of the road near Friends Colony More. They were also asked to address a reported water pipeline leakage on Road No. 1.
During the inspection of Ward 2, the local councillor reported irregular waste collection in Vijay Nagar, alleging that garbage vehicles had not visited the area for several days.
The commissioner directed officials to examine GPS tracking records of the designated waste collection vehicle for the past week.
Residents of Gandhinagar and Letter Box Gali also raised concerns about the level and alignment of drains constructed by BUIDCO. The commissioner instructed the agency to conduct a fresh technical inspection and undertake corrective measures if required.
Public representatives and officials attend inspection
The inspection was attended by councillors from the four wards, officials of the Patliputra zone, engineers from the municipal corporation and representatives of BUIDCO.
The civic body said such inspections would continue as part of its efforts to strengthen preparedness ahead of the monsoon season.
