Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation has repaired or restored more than 12,500 street lights across the city as part of an ongoing campaign to improve public lighting.
According to the civic body, its teams are currently repairing an average of 500 to 550 street lights every day across different zones, including major roads, intersections and residential lanes.
More Than 2,300 New Lights Installed
Of the 12,500-plus street lights addressed under the campaign, more than 2,300 involved the installation of new lights. More than 10,000 lights were restored after faults in wiring, switches and other technical components were repaired.
Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena is regularly reviewing the work and has directed officials to replace lights that repeatedly malfunction despite repairs.
The move is aimed at reducing recurring outages at the same locations and maintaining consistent lighting for residents.
Key Roads And Ghats Covered
The civic body said street lights along the access roads to Bhadra Ghat and Mahavir Ghat have been repaired.
Lighting-related issues have also been resolved along the stretch between the Divisional Commissioner’s office and Rajapur Bridge.
Other areas covered include Officers’ Flats, Chhajjubagh, Bhattacharya Road, Buddha Marg and the stretch from Gai Ghat Gurudwara to the Civil Court.
Up To 31 Teams Working Daily
The corporation said 26 to 31 field teams are currently working to address complaints and identify faulty lights during inspections.
The teams repair damaged wiring and switches, restore malfunctioning lights and install new lights wherever required. The civic body said the deployment is intended to reduce the time taken to resolve complaints.

The Patna Municipal Corporation is also planning to install 100 additional street lights in every ward.
Under the proposed initiative, locations requiring additional lighting will be identified across the wards before new lights are installed.
