Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unveiled plans for six large-scale urban development projects worth an estimated Rs 2,463.91 crore, as it seeks to modernise the city, expand civic infrastructure and create new sources of municipal revenue.
The proposals include three commercial complexes, dedicated vending zones for street vendors, a guest house-cum-civic amenity centre and new green public spaces. The projects will be taken forward after the Urban Development and Housing Department appoints an implementation agency, which will prepare detailed project reports (DPRs).
Three Commercial Complexes Planned
Among the largest proposals is the redevelopment of New Market near Patna Junction into a modern multi-storey commercial complex at an estimated cost of Rs 590.05 crore.
A second multi-storey commercial complex has been proposed at Khetan Market under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with an estimated investment of Rs 736.41 crore.
The Corporation has also proposed a modern shopping complex in Ward 42, estimated to cost Rs 280.44 crore.
Officials said the projects are intended to strengthen commercial infrastructure while creating long-term revenue-generating assets for the civic body.
Vending Zones Across The City
PMC has proposed investing Rs 724.93 crore in developing organised vending zones across different parts of Patna.
The initiative is expected to provide designated spaces for street vendors while improving traffic management and the overall urban environment.
Civic Centre And Green Infrastructure
A guest house-cum-civic amenity centre will be constructed in Sri Krishna Puri at an estimated cost of Rs 82.08 crore.
Spread across nearly 19,000 square feet, the facility will include a banquet hall, guest accommodation, a restaurant and other civic amenities.
In addition, PMC has earmarked around Rs 50 crore for urban green and recreational infrastructure, including cycle tracks, pedestrian walkways, landscaping and public convenience facilities across the city.
Funding Plan
According to the proposal, half of the project cost will be raised through market-based financial resources by the Municipal Corporation.
The Bihar government will contribute 25% of the funding, while the remaining 25% is expected to come from financial assistance from the central government.
Focus On Sustainable Urban Growth
The civic body said the proposed investments are aimed at creating modern commercial infrastructure, improving facilities for street vendors, expanding public recreational spaces and strengthening municipal finances.
If implemented, the projects are expected to support Patna’s long-term urban development while enhancing public amenities and generating additional revenue for the Corporation.
