Patna: With the winter chill intensifying across Bihar, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has arranged a total of 953 beds in night shelters to support the homeless and destitute. These shelters include permanent facilities, temporary units, and German hangar-style shelters positioned across different city zones.
To ensure smooth functioning and safety, caretakers have been deployed in three shifts at each shelter. CCTV cameras and fire extinguishers have been installed for added security. Additionally, a manager has been assigned to every shelter to oversee daily operations, while the local police station has been informed to conduct night patrols in these areas.
Free Meals, Warm Blankets for Protection Against Cold
The PMC has made arrangements for free accommodation along with clean drinking water, toilets, mosquito nets, and adequate blankets. Free dinner will be provided daily to all occupants. Considering the increasing cold, each individual will receive two blankets.
To stay in these shelters, people will need to present their Aadhaar card and provide a mobile number for record purposes.
Dedicated Night Shelters for Women
The civic body has also ensured special provisions for women. Separate shelters exclusively for female occupants have been set up, staffed by female caretakers. These special night shelters are operational at three locations — in front of the Maurya Hotel, Patna City Drain, and near Buddha Smriti Park.
Distribution of Night Shelters Across Zones
• New Capital Zone: 5 German hangars, 2 permanent shelters, 5 temporary shelters
• Kankarbagh Zone: 5 German hangars, 2 permanent shelters, no temporary shelter
• Patliputra Zone: 1 temporary shelter
• Patna City Zone: 2 temporary shelters
• Azimabad Zone: 2 German hangars, 2 permanent shelters
The PMC has urged citizens in need to make use of these winter relief facilities and assured continuous monitoring to ensure safety and comfort for all beneficiaries.
