Patna: The Empowered Standing Committee of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday approved 18 agenda items, including major investments in water supply and drainage infrastructure, a wage revision for daily-wage workers and a review of the city’s legacy waste management programme.
The 23rd ordinary meeting of the committee was chaired by Mayor Sita Sahu and attended by Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi at the municipal corporation auditorium.
Push To Accelerate Legacy Waste Disposal
During a review of the legacy waste treatment project at Ramchak Bairiya, officials informed the committee that bio-mining and bio-remediation operations are being carried out by two agencies, Pathya and Ecostan.
According to the presentation, the agencies are collectively processing 13.38 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste, of which 4.89 lakh metric tonnes have already been treated.
Officials also informed the committee that NACOF has separately disposed of 10 lakh metric tonnes of waste.
The committee directed the agencies and concerned officials to ensure that the remaining work is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Freehold Conversion Proposal Under Review
The committee also discussed a proposal to convert municipal properties currently allotted on leasehold terms into freehold properties.
Members sought a detailed report examining the legal status of such properties, the methodology for determining conversion charges, applicable valuation benchmarks and the potential revenue implications for the corporation.
Officials were asked to submit a comprehensive assessment before any final decision is taken.
Wage Hike For Daily-Wage Workers
The committee granted ex-post-facto approval for an increase in wages for daily-wage workers employed by the municipal corporation.
Under the revised structure, workers currently receiving Rs 604 per day will receive Rs 609, while those earning Rs 654 per day will receive Rs 660.
The revised rates will be implemented retrospectively from October 1, 2025.
Rs 24 Crore Water Supply Expansion Approved
In one of the meeting’s major decisions, the committee approved 65 schemes aimed at expanding and strengthening the municipal water supply network.
The projects, estimated to cost approximately Rs 24 crore, will focus on extending pipeline infrastructure and improving water distribution across various wards of the city.
Officials said the schemes are intended to address growing demand and improve access to potable water in underserved areas.
Drainage Improvement Projects Cleared
To strengthen the city’s drainage system, the committee approved 75 projects related to the construction and repair of manholes, catch pits and slabs.
The works will be undertaken at an estimated cost of around Rs 5 crore.
Municipal officials said the projects are expected to improve drainage efficiency and help mitigate waterlogging issues during the monsoon season.
Shops Allotted To JEEViKA
The committee also approved the allotment of two commercial units to JEEViKA at Maurya Tower in the Maurya Lok Complex.
The shops will be allotted at a monthly rental rate of Rs 15 per square foot.
Officials said the decision is intended to support livelihood and self-help group initiatives promoted through JEEViKA.
The meeting concluded with the approval of all 18 agenda items, with civic officials directed to expedite implementation of the approved projects and ensure regular monitoring of ongoing works across the city.
