Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has accelerated street light repair work across the city to ensure quicker resolution of complaints, improve public safety and prepare for the upcoming festive season.

Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena held a meeting with representatives of EESL, the company responsible for street light maintenance, and directed them to increase the number of field teams and ensure prompt redressal of complaints.

26 EESL Teams In Field

Following the directions, the number of EESL field teams has been increased from 18 to 26.

Each team comprises a driver, an electrician and a helper. Every team has been provided with a pick-up van equipped with electrical wires, switches, lights, ladders and other tools required for repair work.

The teams are coordinating with the PMC control room to respond to complaints and carry out repairs promptly.

In addition, five PMC electricians, each accompanied by an assistant, are conducting field inspections to assess the condition of street lights.

They are identifying faulty lights and sharing details with the concerned teams for corrective action.

650–700 Street Lights Repaired Daily

At present, around 650 to 700 street lights are being repaired every day, according to the civic body.

Repair and maintenance work is expected to gain further momentum after the monsoon season, enabling teams to address a larger number of pending complaints.

10,000–15,000 New Lights To Be Stocked

During the meeting, EESL was directed to ensure the availability of 10,000 to 15,000 additional new street lights.

Lights that repeatedly malfunction despite repairs will be replaced. The civic body has also directed that an adequate stock of new lights be maintained to meet requirements during the upcoming festive season.

High-Mast Lights Installed At 33 Locations

Work on high-mast lighting is also underway across Patna.

Installation of high-mast lights has been completed at 33 locations, while work at the remaining five locations is expected to be completed soon.
