Patna: A Durga Puja pandal modelled on a Kolkata temple is being constructed in Pirmuhani, with the structure expected to stand around 40–50 feet tall. The pandal, being built using thermocol, will feature a 15-foot idol of Goddess Durga.

The puja is being organised by the Shri Shri Maa Durga Puja Samiti Navyuvak Sangh, which has been conducting the festival in the area since 1934. The committee is marking its 92nd year this year.

Kolkata Temple-Inspired Pandal

The committee has chosen a Kolkata temple as the inspiration for this year’s pandal. Artisans from Bengal are working on the structure and its decorative elements, with the design intended to reflect traditional Bengali architectural craftsmanship.

The pandal is being constructed with thermocol and is expected to reach a height of approximately 40–50 feet.

15-Foot Durga Idol

A 15-foot idol of Goddess Durga is also being prepared for the celebrations. The idol is being crafted by a team led by sculptor Virendra Pal, with its design and ornamentation drawing on traditional Kolkata craftsmanship.

Lighting Arrangements Planned

Special lighting arrangements are being planned around the pandal to highlight its temple-style architecture during the evening. The committee is also working on other decorative elements ahead of the festival.

Rs 12 Lakh Estimated Expenditure

According to the committee, around Rs 12 lakh is expected to be spent on the overall arrangements, including the pandal, idol, lighting and other aspects of the puja.

Committee president Arjun Yadav said the organisers try to introduce a new theme each year. This year, the Kolkata temple-inspired pandal has been chosen as part of that effort.

Committee Members Oversee Preparations

Members including Sumit Yadav, Tonu Maurya, Ramu Yadav, Chintu Yadav, Kallu Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Chintu Gupta, Golu and Dinesh Yadav are involved in preparations for the celebrations.

The committee is currently overseeing work on the pandal, idol, lighting and other arrangements ahead of Durga Puja.
