Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation organised a poetry symposium on Tuesday to raise public awareness about cleanliness and civic responsibility in the city. The event was held at Vivekananda Park in the Maurya Complex, where poets from different parts of the country performed and delivered messages about keeping the city clean.
The programme was inaugurated by Patna mayor Sita Sahu and deputy mayor Reshmi Kumari, who lit the ceremonial lamp in the presence of councillors, members of the empowered standing committee and other invited guests. The civic body said the initiative aimed to reach citizens through cultural engagement and encourage them to adopt cleaner habits in everyday life.
Addressing the gathering, Sahu said cleanliness should not remain limited to a government campaign but become a part of people’s lifestyle. She urged residents to keep both their homes and neighbourhoods clean so that Patna could develop into a cleaner and more attractive city. Kumari added that cultural programmes such as poetry gatherings can be an effective way to connect with people and spread awareness about sanitation.
The event featured well-known poets including Neelotpal Mrinal from Bhopal, Pankaj Prasoon from Lucknow, Sameer Parimal and Chandan Dwivedi from Patna, and Dr Tishya Shri from Darbhanga. Through poems and performances, they highlighted the importance of maintaining clean surroundings and treating sanitation as a shared social responsibility.
Several poems emphasised civic duty and pride in the city. Sameer Parimal called on citizens to stop spitting on roads and walls and adopt better habits, while Chandan Dwivedi linked waste management with respect for the motherland. The performances were received with enthusiasm from the audience.
A large number of residents attended the programme and pledged to adopt the message of cleanliness in their daily lives. At the end of the event, the civic body appealed to citizens to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean and supporting the ongoing sanitation campaign in Patna.
