Patna: Patna has taken a significant step towards strengthening its power infrastructure with the successful charging of an 80 MVA capacity transformer at the GIS grid substation in Board Colony, aimed at meeting the city’s growing electricity demand and ensuring uninterrupted supply.
The transformer, the second of its capacity installed at the substation, was energised after completing all prescribed technical standards and safety protocols. Officials described the development as a major milestone in improving the reliability and stability of the city’s electricity network.
The work was completed following directives issued by Rahul Kumar, managing director of Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited (BSPTCL), who had earlier instructed officials to expedite the project during an inspection. The transformer was brought online after close monitoring by senior management, resolving a task that had been pending for several days.
With the new transformer now operational, electricity supply capacity and voltage stability in Board Colony and adjoining areas are expected to improve significantly. Authorities said the upgrade would benefit existing consumers by reducing outages while also preparing the network to handle future increases in demand.
The addition of the 80 MVA transformer is expected to ease overloading issues and minimise power disruptions, particularly during peak consumption hours. Power officials said the project forms part of a broader effort to modernise Bihar’s electricity transmission infrastructure and deliver consistent, high-quality
