Patna: The district education authorities in Patna have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to 922 private schools for failing to comply with the Right to Education (RTE) admission process. The schools have been asked to immediately upload seat details on the Gyan Deep Portal, failing which administrative action will be taken.
According to official data, Patna has 1,315 recognised private schools, but only 393 schools have so far uploaded information about seats reserved under the RTE Act. The remaining schools have not shared the required data, raising concerns about transparency and access for eligible students.
Under the Right to Education Act, private schools are required to reserve 25% of their seats for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections. The district education office said the delay by schools could affect the admission timeline and deny eligible families their legal right to education.
The online application process for RTE admissions began on 2 January and will close on 31 January. The lottery for student selection is scheduled for 7 February, followed by school allotment from 8 to 21 February. Final admissions must be completed by 27 February.
Parents and guardians can register their children and check updates through the official website: http://gyandeep-rte.bihar.gov.in. Education officials have urged schools to comply immediately to avoid penalties and ensure a smooth admission process.
