Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its property tax recovery drive, conducting door-to-door surveys and site inspections to identify properties that are outside the municipal tax net.
As part of the campaign, municipal teams are inspecting large buildings and commercial establishments across different wards for tax assessment. The civic body has also registered a case against a builder for allegedly obstructing a site inspection and misbehaving with the municipal assessment team.
The incident took place during the measurement of a newly constructed building of Islamia Shamsul Hoda on Ashok Rajpath under the Bankipur circle. According to the municipal authorities, the builder allegedly obstructed the inspection and misbehaved with members of the team. The Executive Officer has sent a letter to Pirbahore police seeking action.
The PMC has also involved sanitation teams in the property tax campaign to make the exercise more effective.
On September 15, the civic body collected Rs 93.68 lakh in property tax in a single day. The Patliputra circle recorded the highest collection at Rs 67.99 lakh, followed by Kankarbagh with Rs 8.68 lakh.
The municipal corporation has deployed additional personnel at tax counters and appealed to taxpayers to complete self-assessment and pay their property tax by September 30.
The PMC has said that a 1.5% penalty per month will be applicable after the deadline.
99 new properties brought into tax net
Under the property tax enhancement campaign, municipal teams are conducting door-to-door outreach and site inspections across all circles. Officials are also contacting electricity consumers to verify details of their properties.
According to the civic body, 99 new properties have been identified and brought under the property tax net. In addition, 34 properties completed self-reassessment, while 13 properties underwent reassessment along with applicable penalties.

The figures relate to the property tax collection drive conducted on September 15. During the exercise, tax assessment was carried out for 113 properties, while 35 properties completed self-reassessment and 13 properties were reassessed with penalties.
