Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has constituted a committee to address the issue of notices issued by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) against commercial activities being operated from residential properties in the city.
The committee will be headed by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and will examine the matter before recommending a practical solution in the public interest.
Committee formed to examine the issue
Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Kumar Mishra has been appointed as the member secretary of the committee.
Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, Cooperation Minister Ramkripal Yadav and Legislative Council member Sanjay Kumar Singh have been included as members.
The committee will study the issue and take necessary steps towards finding a practical and public-oriented solution.
Delegation meets CM over PMC notices
The decision follows a meeting between a delegation of elected representatives and Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The delegation submitted a memorandum seeking a solution to the notices issued by the Patna Municipal Corporation. The delegation included MLAs Sanjeev Chaurasia, Ratnesh Kushwaha, Shyam Rajak and Sanjay Gupta.
The representatives raised concerns regarding the impact of the civic body’s action on property owners and people operating businesses from residential premises.
Over 30,000 notices reportedly issued
The issue has gained significance following directions from the Supreme Court regarding commercial activities operating in residential areas.
Following surveys and inspections across different zones, the Patna Municipal Corporation has reportedly issued notices to more than 30,000 homeowners and business operators.
The civic body’s action has caused concern among property owners and traders who have been conducting commercial activities from residential premises.
Business owners await committee’s recommendations
The notices have triggered uncertainty among people running businesses from their homes in residential neighbourhoods.
The newly constituted committee is now expected to examine the regulatory and practical aspects of the issue and work towards a solution that addresses the concerns of affected residents while taking into account applicable rules and court directions.
