Patna: Amid a steady drop in temperatures and cold winds sweeping across the region, the Patna district administration has announced a change in school timings to safeguard children’s health. Taking note of the adverse impact of severe cold on students, the District Magistrate (DM), Patna, has issued an order revising operational hours for all government and private schools in the district.
According to the order, no academic activities will be allowed in any government or private school, including pre-schools and anganwadi centres, before 9 am and after 4.30 pm. This effectively means that classes cannot be conducted during early morning and late evening hours in view of the prevailing cold conditions.
The order, however, exempts board and pre-board examination-related classes and examinations. Students appearing for these exams will continue to attend classes and tests as per the previously scheduled timetable.
The revised timing order comes into effect from today and will remain valid till December 25, 2025. The district administration has directed all school managements to strictly comply with the instructions and ensure the safety and well-being of children.
The DM clarified that the directive has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and warned that strict action may be taken against institutions found violating the order. Copies of the orders have been forwarded to the education department, district education officer, police administration and other concerned authorities for implementation.
The district administration has also appealed to parents to remain vigilant about their children’s health during the cold spell and to send their wards to school only after confirming the revised timings with the respective institutions.
