Rising Ganga Forces 78 Schools in Patna to Shut till Further Orders

Fearing floods, Patna administration has closed 78 schools near the Ganga and asked teachers to work in other schools for now

Patna: Due to the rising water level of the Ganga river, 78 schools in Patna district have been closed till further notice. This decision has been taken to keep children and teachers safe from any flood-related danger. The schools will remain shut from Monday, 21 July, as ordered by the District Magistrate under disaster management rules.

Officials said the water level of the Ganga has gone above the danger mark. Because of this, there is a risk to the health and safety of students and staff. The District Education Officer has issued a letter to close all schools in the marked panchayats of eight blocks along the river. These include schools in areas like Samanpur Diara, Ibrahimpur, Kala Diara, Ganghar, Madhopur, Patel Nagar, Kata Toli Diara and many others.

The administration has said that schools will reopen only when the water level comes down and it becomes safe for children to attend classes. Until then, teachers of these schools will not sit at home. They will be sent to work in other nearby schools for the days their own schools remain closed.

Teachers have also been asked to mark their daily attendance on the online attendance portal. The District Magistrate has instructed all school heads to follow these orders strictly and ensure there is no problem in implementing them. This step has been taken to avoid any danger to lives during the flood season in Bihar.
