Patna: Academic activities for students up to Class 5 in all government and private schools across Patna will remain suspended until January 13, after the district administration extended restrictions in view of the prevailing cold wave.
The order was issued by district magistrate Dr Thyagarajan S.M., who said the decision was taken due to “severe prevailing low temperature” that could adversely affect the health and safety of children. The directive is a continuation of an earlier order dated January 8, which had imposed similar restrictions up to Class 8 until January 11.

Under the revised order, all academic activities for students from pre-school to Class 5, including Anganwadi centres, will remain prohibited across Patna district. However, classes from Class 6 onwards will be allowed to function with precautions and limited timings, between 10.30am and 3pm. Special classes and examinations being held for pre-board or board examinations have been exempted from the restrictions.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), will come into effect from January 12 and remain valid until January 13. School authorities have been directed to reschedule academic activities in line with the revised instructions.
Officials said the decision reflects growing concern over the impact of prolonged cold conditions on young children, as Bihar continues to witness low minimum temperatures and cold day conditions in several districts.
