Patna: Disruption broke out at Patna Science College on Saturday during the third semester professional MBBS examinations, after students objected to restrictions on carrying mobile phones into the examination hall. The situation escalated into a protest outside the centre, with police deployed to restore order.
The examination, conducted under Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), was being held for students from Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) and Pawapuri Medical College.
According to officials, tensions began when candidates attempted to enter the centre while keeping their mobile phones with them, reportedly to display admit cards stored digitally. When entry was denied under exam rules prohibiting electronic devices, a group of students protested and allegedly argued with invigilators. College authorities subsequently called the police.
Even after security personnel arrived, the situation remained tense, with a number of examinees continuing their protest outside the centre.
Amid the disturbance, an image of what is claimed to be the question paper circulated on social media, prompting concerns of a possible leak. Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the material.
The incident follows a similar protest on Friday, when students objected to alleged restrictions related to exam conduct. That day’s examination was not held after the administration informed AKU’s examination controller, following which observers and invigilators left the centre.
Despite that, students had reportedly proceeded to gather at the venue, further complicating the situation.
The developments have triggered discussion within the university administration about the possibility of cancelling the paper. The vice-chancellor has indicated that a committee will examine the matter before any decision is taken.
Police remain stationed at the examination centre as efforts continue to defuse tensions.
