Patna: A seminar on national security, bringing together experts, academicians and former officials, was held in Patna on Friday to deliberate on emerging threats and strategic responses in a rapidly changing global landscape.
Organised by the Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS), Patna chapter, the event on “National Security: Policy Strategy and Contemporary Challenges” took place at the Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) auditorium.
The session began with a welcome address by Kumod Kumar, chief administrative officer of CIMP and general secretary of the FANS Patna chapter, who greeted participants and dignitaries.
Focus on evolving threats and strategy

In his presidential address, Prof Rana Singh, director of CIMP, emphasised the importance of strategic planning in addressing modern security challenges, including nuclear, chemical, biological and radiological threats. He highlighted the role of indigenous research and secure digital systems in achieving technological self-reliance.
Lt Gen Ashok Kumar Choudhary, president of the FANS Patna chapter, described national security as a multi-dimensional concept encompassing economic stability, social cohesion and technological strength, calling for a coordinated and inclusive approach.
Rural development and cultural preservation highlighted
Chief guest Dinesh Chandra Rai, vice-chancellor of B R Ambedkar Bihar University, stressed the importance of cultural preservation, agricultural innovation and rural development in strengthening national resilience.
Vikramaditya Singh, national organisation general secretary of FANS, spoke about the need for secure environments for development and highlighted interstate and global dimensions of national security.
Cyber threats and citizen responsibility

Golok Bihari Rai, a member of the FANS national steering committee, underlined the link between security, economic growth and governance, while pointing to challenges such as population pressures and crime.
Alok Raj, former director general of police in Bihar, addressed both traditional and emerging threats, including cyber attacks and the misuse of social media for propaganda. He emphasised the role of citizens in supporting national security through awareness and preparedness.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Kumod Kumar, with participants noting that such discussions are essential in shaping a comprehensive and forward-looking security framework.
