Patna: Fresh CCTV footage has surfaced in the high-profile case involving the alleged rape and death of a NEET aspirant at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Patna, offering a minute-by-minute account of events on January 6 . The roughly 11-minute video, now under scrutiny by investigators and the public, captures the moments leading up to the student being found unconscious and carried out of her room.
According to the footage, activity begins around 3:50 p.m. when students from neighbouring rooms gather outside the locked cabin. Several girls repeatedly call out the student’s name and ask her to open the door. When there is no response, one student climbs onto a nearby table to peer inside, after which the group begins knocking loudly, still receiving no reply.
As more students arrive, the concern escalates. Around 3:55 p.m., a woman, believed to be a hostel staff member, joins the group and also bangs on the door. Despite repeated attempts, the door remains closed. At approximately 3:57 p.m., a man appears in the corridor, reportedly suggesting the student might be sleeping, before attempting to look inside the room.
The door is eventually opened shortly before 4 p.m. when a student reaches inside from above. Several students enter the room, and moments later, sounds of crying are heard. Girls are seen running to fetch water and blankets. Around 4 p.m., a young man is captured carrying the unconscious student out in his arms, after which the corridor appears to empty rapidly.
The footage has raised fresh questions about the circumstances inside the hostel and the response of those present. Authorities are examining the video as part of the ongoing investigation, while calls for accountability and stronger safety measures for female students continue to grow across Bihar and beyond.
