Patna: A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Patna on Sunday when a brother and sister were found unconscious outside Patna Junction and later died during treatment at PMCH. Police said the two siblings, Dinesh Rai and his sister Goldy Rai, had consumed poison earlier in the day at Gandhi Maidan before making their way to the railway station. They collapsed near Gate No. 1, on the Mahavir Mandir side, causing panic among passengers and people nearby. Despite efforts from bystanders to revive them, their condition did not improve, and police rushed them to the hospital.
According to officials, the siblings were originally from Gopalganj but had been living in a rented house in Kankarbagh after losing both parents. An acquaintance revealed that after the death of their parents, the two were taken in by their uncle and aunt but were later removed from the family property. With no stable home or support, Dinesh and Goldy had been trying to survive on their own in Patna, taking up small jobs to manage daily expenses.
On Sunday afternoon, the pair reportedly went to Gandhi Maidan, where they consumed a poisonous substance. From there, they travelled to Patna Junction. Around 5 p.m., witnesses saw them suddenly collapse outside the station. People sprinkled water on their faces in an attempt to help but quickly alerted police when the siblings did not respond. They were taken to PMCH, where doctors attempted treatment but could not save their lives.
Their bodies have been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. The Patna Junction Railway Police have launched a detailed investigation to understand what pushed the siblings to take such a step. Officials are examining CCTV footage from Gandhi Maidan and the railway station and speaking to their acquaintances. Police say they are looking into all possible angles, including financial distress, family issues and emotional pressures, before drawing any conclusions.
