Patna: A special solar fair will be held in Patna on February 26 as part of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme, aimed at encouraging households to adopt rooftop solar systems. The initiative is being organised by the Patna Electric Supply Unit (PESU) to help consumers access government incentives and technical guidance in a single venue.
The event will take place at the Energy Auditorium in Shastri Nagar from 10am to 4pm, offering information sessions, expert consultations and on-the-spot registration facilities. Officials said the fair is designed to promote decentralised power generation by transforming residential rooftops into small energy production units, thereby reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources.
Visitors will receive detailed guidance on rooftop solar technology, including installation procedures, costs, maintenance requirements and potential financial savings. Experts from financial institutions and energy agencies will also advise consumers on bank loans, subsidy mechanisms and net-metering provisions. Representatives from relevant departments and certified solar vendors are expected to showcase products and services while addressing consumer queries.
The programme will also recognise households that have already installed rooftop solar systems and achieved zero electricity bills, with organisers hoping the recognition will motivate wider public participation. The event will be inaugurated by Manoj Kumar Singh, principal secretary of the energy department and CMD of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited.
Consumers completing registration during the fair will be eligible for special discounts, simplified financing options and government subsidies. Under the scheme, subsidies of Rs 30,000 per kW are available for systems between 1 and 2 kW, while installations of 3 kW or more can receive support of up to Rs 78,000. Organisers have urged residents to attend the fair and harness rooftop solar systems to cut electricity expenses while contributing to cleaner energy adoption.
