Patna: Wholesale sugar prices in Patna have fallen to around Rs 55 per kg amid a slowdown in market demand, but the decline has yet to fully reach consumers.
Retail sugar is currently selling at Rs 60 to Rs 65 per kg in many areas, while prices in some locations remain as high as Rs 70 per kg.
Wholesale Prices Ease
Ajay Gupta, president of the Bihar State Business Association, said the wholesale market is witnessing an easing trend in sugar prices following weaker demand.
Wholesale trader Lalbabu Chaudhary said sugar is currently being traded at around Rs 55 per kg, with business activity slowing at the wholesale level.
Retail Prices Yet To Follow
Traders said retailers have not immediately reduced prices because they are still selling stock purchased at higher rates.
Retail prices are expected to decline as existing stocks are cleared and retailers begin receiving fresh supplies at lower wholesale rates.
Traders expect retail prices to soften within the next one or two days if the decline in wholesale rates continues.
The easing of prices could provide some relief to consumers after recent increases in sugar prices during the festive season.
