Patna: In a move aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure, the Bihar government has signed an agreement to develop a five-star Taj hotel in Patna under a public-private partnership model.
The agreement was signed in the presence of tourism minister Arun Shankar Prasad between the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Limited (BSTDCL) and Saraga Hotel Private Limited. The project will be executed by The Indian Hotels Company Limited.
Officials said the hotel will be built on land adjacent to the Bankipur bus stand and is expected to provide high-end accommodation for tourists and business travellers visiting the city.
Addressing the event, the minister said there was a growing demand for quality hospitality infrastructure in Bihar, particularly in the capital. He added that the government was working to ensure that visitors do not face difficulties in finding suitable accommodation.
The proposed hotel will have around 500 rooms, to be developed in two phases—350 rooms in the first phase and 150 in the second. According to project timelines, the initial phase is expected to be completed within four years, with operations likely to begin by January 2030.
The location is seen as strategically important, situated near the Gandhi Maidan, the banks of the Ganges and close to the Samrat Ashok Convention Centre.
Officials said the project is part of a broader push to expand tourism in Bihar by improving infrastructure and developing new circuits. Alongside established destinations such as Bodh Gaya and Rajgir, the government is also looking to promote sites like the Janaki temple in Sitamarhi.
The Patna project marks the second five-star hotel initiative in the city, with work already under way on another similar development and plans for a third in progress.
