Patna: The construction of a new five-star hotel is set to begin soon in Patna, with the demolition of Hotel Patliputra Ashok near Income Tax Golambar already underway. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has handed over the site to the construction agency for redevelopment.
The proposed five-star hotel will be built on a 1.5-acre plot and will have 140 rooms. The project is estimated to cost over ₹200 crore. Officials said the architectural model for the hotel will be finalised within this month, following which construction work will commence. The project is expected to be completed within four years.
An MoU for the project was signed in September last year between BSTDC, ITC Hotels and the selected construction agency. Kumar Infratrade had earlier been issued the Letter of Award (LoA) for the project. The agency has chosen ITC Hotels as the operating partner for the hotel.
As per project norms, the selected agency is required to sign an Operations and Management (O&M) agreement with a reputed five-star hotel brand within 150 days from the date of issuance of the LoA. Construction work is initiated only after the completion of this mandatory process.
Apart from the Patliputra Ashok project, two more five-star hotels are planned in Patna. At the Bankipore Bus Stand complex near Gandhi Maidan, JW Marriott will construct a five-star hotel as part of the redevelopment plan.
Meanwhile, plans for a five-star hotel on the Sultan Palace land at Virchand Patel Path are also underway. Considering the heritage value of the existing structure, a special committee has been formed to examine the project. The committee is headed by the Secretary of the Department of Art, Culture and Youth Affairs. Based on its report, the process of selecting companies for the construction of the hotel will be initiated.
With these projects, Patna is set to significantly expand its luxury hospitality infrastructure, aimed at boosting tourism and accommodating high-end travellers in the state capital.
