Patna: Patna will host a vibrant showcase of one of India’s most beloved fruits later this month, as the Directorate of Horticulture prepares to hold the Mango Festival 2025 on June 28 and June 29 at Gyan Bhavan. Organised by the Bihar government’s Agriculture Department, the two-day event promises a celebration of mango diversity, along with competitions, exhibitions, and dialogues focused on boosting production and innovation.
Visitors will have the chance to explore dozens of mango varieties under one roof, with the exhibition open to the public from 10am to 8pm each day. Entry and registration are free.
The festival’s highlights include a wide display of mango cultivars grown in Bihar, such as Maldah, Jardalu, Gulabkhas, Langra, Dussehri, Fazli and Alphonso. The event also features a series of contests, such as a mango carving competition, a tasting-based ‘Eat mangoes and get rewards’ event for children aged 5–10, and a painting competition for children aged 4–8. Winners will receive cash prizes and certificates.
Seven categories of competitions are being organised specifically for farmers, encompassing early, mid-season, and late varieties, hybrids, grafted mango plants, preserved mango products, and locally bred types such as Biju mango.
Workshops and talks on advanced mango cultivation techniques and marketing strategies are also planned, offering a platform for knowledge-sharing between farmers, entrepreneurs and experts in horticulture.
Online applications for participation are open at horticulture.bihar.gov.in until June 26. Exhibitors are expected to submit their entries on June 27, between 9am and 3pm.
