Patna: Patna came to a partial standstill since Monday morning as the city prepared for the concluding event of Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra, prompting the traffic police to impose sweeping restrictions around Gandhi Maidan.
The padyatra, which marks the finale of Gandhi’s fortnight-long tour across Bihar, will begin at Gandhi Maidan and end at Ambedkar Park, where a public meeting of Mahagathbandhan leaders has been scheduled.
According to the traffic advisory, auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws have been banned in the vicinity of Gandhi Maidan from 7am, while movement on Nehru Path at Dakbungalow Chauraha, Income Tax Golambar and Hartali Mor has been curtailed. All connecting roads from Patna Junction and Kurji leading to Gandhi Maidan have also been sealed off.
Schools in and around the Gandhi Maidan area have been ordered shut for the day to minimise disruption. Authorities have assured that normal traffic operations will resume once the padyatra concludes.
The yatra, launched in protest against intensive voter revision in Bihar, has traversed multiple districts before reaching Patna. Gandhi is being joined by opposition leaders including Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and former minister Mukesh Sahni, along with workers of allied Mahagathbandhan parties.
