Patna : Traffic arrangements in Patna will be changed on November 6 and 7 to manage the expected rush of shoppers in major markets ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali. The traffic police have announced vehicle entry restrictions and diversions around several busy commercial areas to reduce congestion and ensure safer movement for pedestrians.
The special traffic plan has been issued on the directions of Traffic Superintendent of Police Sagar Jha. Restrictions will apply around Khetan Market, Chudi Market, Bakarganj, Machhuatoli and Nala Road, among other areas.
Emergency services, including ambulances, fire engines, vehicles carrying patients and hearses, will remain exempt from the restrictions.
No Vehicle Entry Around Khetan Market, Chudi Market And Bakarganj
According to the traffic advisory, vehicle movement will be restricted around some of Patna’s busiest shopping areas, including Khetan Market, Chudi Market and Bakarganj.
Vehicles coming towards Bakarganj from Machhuatoli and Bari Path will not be allowed to enter the restricted stretch. Those travelling west from Machhuatoli through Bari Path towards Bakarganj will have to use Ashok Rajpath as an alternative route.
Restrictions will also apply to vehicles travelling eastwards from Bakarganj towards Machhuatoli. Traffic movement from Kadamkuan Mor towards Chudi Market and Thakurbari Mor will also be prohibited during the regulated period.
The restrictions are intended to reduce vehicle pressure around the markets, where a large number of shoppers are expected during the festive period.
Diversions From Dinkar Golambar Towards Nala Road
Vehicle movement will also be regulated around Dinkar Golambar, particularly on routes leading towards Nala Road and Machhuatoli.
Ordinary vehicles will not be allowed to proceed from Dinkar Golambar towards these areas under the special arrangements.
Passenger vehicles travelling towards Ashok Rajpath will be directed through Dinkar Golambar and Premchand Golambar to reach their destinations.
The diversion is intended to keep traffic moving on alternative routes while reducing congestion around shopping streets and market entrances.
Commercial Vehicles Banned From 2 PM To 10 PM On November 6 And 7
A separate restriction will apply to commercial and goods vehicles on both November 6 and 7.
Between 2 pm and 10 pm, goods vehicles will not be permitted to travel from Dinkar Golambar in either direction towards Sahitya Sammelan or Nala Road.
Commercial vehicles will also be prohibited from entering Nala Road from Budh Murti Golambar.
Such vehicles will instead be diverted from Budh Murti Golambar through western Lohanipur towards Rajendra Nagar.
The time-based restriction is aimed at reducing the movement of heavy vehicles during peak shopping hours, when roads around major markets are expected to experience increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Emergency Vehicles Exempt From Traffic Restrictions
The traffic police have clarified that emergency services will remain exempt from all restrictions under the special plan.
Ambulances, fire service vehicles, vehicles carrying patients and hearses will be allowed to move so that emergency medical and other essential services are not disrupted.
The exemption is intended to ensure that traffic management measures do not obstruct access to hospitals or delay emergency response.
Traffic SP Sagar Jha Appeals To Residents To Follow Diversions
Traffic SP Sagar Jha has urged residents to check the prescribed routes before leaving home for festive shopping and follow instructions issued by traffic personnel deployed across the city.
The police have asked commuters to cooperate with the temporary restrictions and use the designated alternative routes to avoid unnecessary delays.
The special arrangements will remain in force on November 6 and 7, 2026, with the primary focus on managing crowds around commercial areas and maintaining access for emergency vehicles.
