Patna: Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws travelling from the Rajabazaar flyover towards Rajvanshinagar will now have to take a longer, designated route as part of a new traffic management plan aimed at reducing congestion on Nehru Path.
Under the revised arrangement, three-wheelers will no longer be allowed to proceed directly towards Nehru Path. Instead, they will have to take a U-turn near the Zoo before following an alternative route towards Rajvanshinagar.
The move is aimed at reducing traffic pressure on one of Patna’s busiest corridors, particularly during peak morning and evening hours.
Three-Wheelers To Use Airport Road
After taking the U-turn near the Zoo, auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws will travel towards the Dumra Police Outpost and then continue via Airport Road.
From there, they will proceed towards Peer Ali Path before eventually emerging near Chitkohra.
The administration hopes the diversion will reduce the number of vehicles entering the congested stretch of Nehru Path and improve traffic flow around Rajabazaar, Rajvanshinagar, the Zoo and Airport Road.
Passengers May Face Longer Journeys
The new route could mean additional travel for passengers heading towards Rajvanshinagar, Rajabazaar and neighbouring areas.
However, officials are expected to monitor traffic movement after implementation and assess whether the diversion is achieving its intended purpose.
Further changes could be introduced if congestion develops along the alternative route or the new arrangement fails to deliver smoother traffic movement.
Drivers Required To Follow Designated Route
Auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers will be required to follow the designated route rather than reverting to the previous road.
The administration’s broader objective is to reduce congestion caused by the rapidly increasing number of vehicles on Patna’s roads. Traffic bottlenecks are particularly common around major intersections, flyovers and market areas during peak hours.
The impact of the new diversion will become clearer in the coming days. If it succeeds in reducing congestion on Nehru Path, similar route-diversion measures could be considered for other busy corridors in the city.
