Patna: Patna Traffic Police has introduced a new traffic arrangement at the GPO Road Over Bridge (ROB), restricting the entry of goods vehicles during peak hours. The measure will be implemented on a trial basis from September 21, 2026, with the aim of easing congestion and improving traffic movement in the area.
Under the new arrangement, goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter the GPO ROB between 9am and 11am in the morning and 6pm and 8.30pm in the evening.
Traffic Pressure Increased After Meethapur-Mahuli Flyover
According to the traffic department, the volume of vehicles moving from the Meethapur-Mahuli Elevated Flyover towards GPO Golambar has increased significantly since August 28.
The increased traffic load has affected vehicle movement along the route, particularly during the morning and evening peak hours. Authorities said the resulting slowdown has contributed to congestion in the area.
The restriction on goods vehicles is intended to reduce the pressure on the road during the busiest periods and allow other traffic to move more smoothly.
Trial To Begin On September 21
The new restriction will initially remain experimental, with traffic officials monitoring its impact after implementation.
Authorities will assess traffic conditions, vehicle movement and congestion levels during the trial before deciding on any further action or changes to the arrangement.
The trial approach will allow the traffic department to evaluate whether restricting goods vehicles during the specified hours improves movement around GPO ROB and adjoining roads.
Drivers Advised To Use Alternative Routes
Goods vehicle operators have been advised to plan their journeys around the restricted hours and use alternative routes where necessary.
Traffic authorities have also appealed to vehicle owners and drivers to cooperate with the new arrangement and follow the specified timings. Violations of the restriction may invite action under applicable traffic rules.
The measure is part of efforts by Patna Traffic Police to manage increasing vehicle pressure on key city routes and reduce congestion during peak travel periods.
