Jhanjharpur: A sleeper coach bus travelling from Patna to Triveniganj collided with a container truck in Jhanjharpur, Madhubani district, early on Saturday, leaving several passengers injured.
The accident occurred at around 5am near the Sangram bridge on National Highway 27 when the container braked suddenly after being signalled to stop by a Dial 112 police vehicle. The Dev Travels bus following closely behind failed to slow down in time and crashed into the container.
Witnesses said panic broke out inside the bus as passengers screamed in shock. Around half a dozen people sustained minor injuries and were taken to a private hospital in Jhanjharpur, where they received first aid and were later discharged. The bus driver and conductor escaped unhurt.
The bus conductor alleged that the police vehicle had stopped the container for “recovery” and later allowed it to leave after the crash, without helping the injured. The driver of the container fled the scene immediately after the accident. Local police officials have denied the allegations, stating that passengers were treated and later sent to their destination on another bus.
