Patna: Weather conditions across Bihar, including Patna, have turned unstable, with the India Meteorological Department issuing an orange alert for rainfall across the state on Saturday. The department has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 50–60 kmph and the possibility of lightning strikes in several districts.
Heavy rainfall was recorded on Friday in districts such as Kishanganj and Banka, among others. The downpour led to waterlogging in multiple areas, with the Gopalganj Sadar Hospital area turning inundated, causing inconvenience to patients and their attendants. In Begusarai, hailstorms accompanied heavy rain, prompting residents to take protective measures for vehicles and property.
Lightning-related incidents proved fatal in some regions. In Kaimur, a labourer died after being struck by lightning, while a similar incident in Khagaria claimed the life of a youth.
Meanwhile, visuals from Bettiah showed a wedding procession continuing despite heavy rain, with the groom seen celebrating atop a horse during the bride’s farewell ceremony. In Bhojpur, harvested crops kept in fields were damaged after being soaked in rain.
According to weather data from the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was reported in Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, Bagaha, Raxaul and Sheohar. Light showers were recorded in parts of Patna, Araria and Kishanganj, while several cities remained overcast throughout the day.
The rainfall has brought a noticeable drop in temperatures across the state. Kaimur recorded a decline of around 5 degrees Celsius, with the temperature falling from approximately 41°C to 36.8°C. In Rohtas, temperatures dropped sharply by nearly 9 degrees—from 44°C earlier in the week to 35°C on Friday. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded in Jehanabad at 31.5°C.
Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department has forecast continued strong winds between May 2 and May 4, with speeds likely to reach up to 60 kmph in some areas. While rainfall activity may persist intermittently, maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 3–4 degrees Celsius over the next few days, bringing back warmer conditions. Night temperatures are also likely to increase slightly.
In Patna, cloudy skies are expected to prevail over the next three days, with intermittent spells of rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Despite a marginal rise in temperature, humidity and unstable weather conditions may continue to affect daily life.
