Patna: A newly constructed smart road over the Mandiri Nala in Patna is likely to be inaugurated on May 11, with chief minister Samrat Chaudhary expected to formally open the project.
The road, developed under the Patna Smart City Limited initiative, will connect the Income Tax roundabout with Ashok Rajpath, and further to JP Ganga Path, creating a new arterial link aimed at easing traffic congestion.
Key Features Of The Project
Launched in December 2021, the Rs 86.98 crore project spans 1,289 metres and incorporates a twin-barrel reinforced cement concrete (RCC) box drain beneath the road.
Officials said the design allows for maintenance and cleaning of the drain without disrupting the road surface.
The project also includes:
- Two access ramps
- Three desilting chambers
- Four sluice gates for water management
- Street lighting and landscaping for improved urban aesthetics
Improving Connectivity And Drainage
Authorities said the new road is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Bailey Road and Ashok Rajpath, two of the city’s busiest corridors.
It is also designed to enhance drainage in several areas, including S.P. Verma Road, Mithapur, Gardanibagh, Babu Bazar, Dhobighat, Eco Park, Chhajjubagh, MLA Flats and the Irrigation Building area.
Relief For Commuters
Residents and commuters in the Mandiri area have welcomed the project, expressing optimism that it will reduce traffic bottlenecks and improve daily travel.
The project covers wards 21, 24, 25, 26 and 27, and officials said it would contribute to smoother vehicular movement while addressing long-standing drainage issues.
Smart City Push
Officials said the Mandiri Nala road is part of a broader effort to modernise urban infrastructure in Patna, combining road development with improved drainage and sustainable design.
Once operational, the corridor is expected to play a key role in decongesting central Patna and enhancing overall urban mobility.
