Patna: Police in Bihar’s capital have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a woman in Gardanibagh, amid allegations that she was killed by her brother over an alleged relationship.
The incident occurred in Chawal Mandi Gali, near Chitkohra Bridge, where the woman, who was married, was reportedly involved in a family dispute linked to claims of a love affair with another man.
According to police sources, tensions had escalated in the household over the past two days, culminating in a violent altercation. Officers from Gardanibagh police station arrived at the scene after receiving information from local residents.
While some family members insist the woman’s death was suspicious but accidental, police have not ruled out the possibility of an honour killing. Her body has been sent for postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
“There are indications of a serious dispute in the family connected to the woman’s personal relationship,” an investigating officer said. “We are examining all angles, and if this is indeed a case of murder, those responsible will face strict legal action.”
The woman’s brother reportedly carried out her last rites shortly after her death, further fuelling speculation among neighbours and local residents, who remain shocked by the incident.
Police have appealed for calm in the area and urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
