Patna: The monsoon has fully intensified in Bihar, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue alerts across all 23 districts of the state for Saturday. As rainfall activity picks up, 11 districts are under an orange alert—indicating the possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds—while 12 districts are under a yellow alert, warning of rain accompanied by lightning and thunder.
On Friday, heavy downpours were recorded in the hilly regions of Gayaji, Bhagalpur, Lakhisarai, and Sasaram, providing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. Light showers were also reported in Patna and Ara, though temperatures in these cities remained largely unchanged.
“The rain has brought a big relief from the heat,” said a resident of Bhagalpur, where local streets saw children playing in the rain and families stepping out to enjoy the cool weather.
According to the IMD, no major fluctuations are expected in the temperature over the next five days. The maximum temperature will hover between 32°C and 35°C, while the minimum temperature will remain between 24°C and 26°C.
The forecast suggests cloudy weather will persist for the next 2–3 days across most parts of the state, with intermittent rain and humid conditions. Wind speeds during rainfall may reach 30 to 40 km/h, the department said.
Meteorologists stated that conditions are conducive for the further advance of the southwest monsoon across the remaining parts of the country in the coming 2–3 days, which will also impact Bihar. A trough line currently stretches from southwest Rajasthan through Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and into Bangladesh, up to 6 km above sea level. This system is drawing moisture into Bihar, leading to increased cloud cover and rainfall activity.
Rain was reported in four districts over the last 24 hours. Motihari recorded the highest temperature at 36.5°C, while Banka registered the lowest at 31.7°C.
The IMD has also indicated the possible formation of a cyclonic circulation over the northern Bay of Bengal, near coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh, around June 29. This new weather system is expected to further intensify rainfall across several districts in Bihar next week.
Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in districts under the orange alert zone, as heavy rains and strong winds may disrupt normal life and transport in the coming days.
