Patna Women’s College Concludes Three-Day Orientation Programme with Emphasis on Values and Diversity
Patna: The final day of the three-day Orientation Programme for the new academic batch of UG 2024-2028 and PG 2024-2026 at Patna Women’s College (PWC) took place on Wednesday in the Veronica Auditorium. The programme commenced with the College Anthem led by Sister Nelsa A.C., Assistant Professor in the Department of English.
Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the Department of History and Cultural Coordinator, highlighted the college’s Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) initiatives, including PRAYAS, MVDF, NCC, NSS, ICWA, Each One Teach One, and Manthan. She stressed the importance of social responsibility, outreach programmes, extended services, and the concept of the Joy of Giving.
Following this, Alok John, Dean of National and International Collaborations and Consultancy Services, discussed Human Values and Professional Ethics. He underscored the importance of ethical conduct and human values in personal and professional life.
Dr. Soofia Fatima, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Head of the Department of Commerce, elaborated on the campus culture. She emphasized its role in fostering students’ understanding of diverse cultural traditions and promoting respectful engagement, preparing them to function in a globally interdependent world. She also informed the students about the various facilities available on campus.
Dr. Ameeta Jaiswal, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and Head of the Department of Philosophy, detailed the various committees dedicated to student welfare, such as the Anti-Ragging Committee, The Redressal Committee, and The Consultancy Committee. She reiterated the college’s zero-tolerance Tolerance Policy for Ragging and Sexual Harassment, highlighting the punishments as per UGC and Supreme Court directives.
Dr. Manjula Sushila, Head of the Department of Hindi, along with Shweta Singh, Sports Teacher, spoke about the college’s sports activities and the band. They encouraged students to enroll in these activities to stay fit and active, stressing the importance of discipline in sports. A recreational session followed their address.
Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of Patna Women’s College, delivered the presidential address. She spoke about the college’s vision, mission, and objectives, emphasizing the vibrancy brought by the diverse student body. “Once you enter Patna Women’s College and inculcate its values, you become Patna Women’s College,” she said. She also spoke about the college’s core values, including faith in God, moral uprightness, love and forgiveness, social responsibility, respect for life and creativity, pursuit of excellence, and promotion of peace, harmony, and brotherhood.
The session concluded with a prayer by Sister Nelsa A.C., followed by the readings of Holy scriptures by three students: Riya Jerome, Aadya Aradhya, and Mantsha Rehman, who read from the Bible, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Quran, respectively.
The entire event was organized by Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Enakshi Dey Biswas, and Puja Kumari. The session was moderated by Shrishti Tiwari, Premier of the Student Council 2024-25.
