Patna: Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, organised an invited lecture on environmental sustainability as part of its Nature’s Conservation Drive being held from July 13 to July 28. The programme was jointly organised by the SRISHTI Environment Club, the Department of Geography and the ECO Task Force.
The lecture was delivered by Brother Mark Mackey, S.J., a lecturer at the School of Environmental Sustainability, Loyola University Chicago. During the session, he spoke on environmental sustainability, eco-spirituality and ecological stewardship, highlighting the role of individuals and communities in promoting sustainable practices.
Focus on Eco-Spirituality and Eco-Anxiety
Brother Mark Mackey introduced students to the concepts of eco-spirituality and eco-anxiety, explaining their relevance in addressing contemporary environmental challenges. The session aimed to encourage participants to understand the relationship between environmental conservation and personal responsibility.
Students from the Departments of Geography and Zoology, along with members of the SRISHTI Environment Club and the ECO Task Force, participated in the programme. According to the organisers, around 200 students attended the lecture.
Interactive Session With Students
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students engaged with the resource person on issues related to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
The organisers said the event was made possible through the efforts of Devopriya Dutta, Youth Coordinator at Tarumitra, along with faculty members from the Departments of Geography and Zoology.

The event was conducted under the guidance of Amrita Chowdhury, Head of the Department of Geography; Sumeet Ranjan, Head of the Department of Zoology and Vice-President of the ECO Task Force; and Meenakshi Mishra, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Coordinator of the SRISHTI Environment Club.
